Donaciano Vigil, Territorial Secretary to both Mexican and US governors in New Mexico, plays a pivotal role in the story of the Cruzate grants.
As I poured through the Donaciano Vigil collection to establish connections (circles of friends, acquaintances, and even enemies), documents sometimes present difficult challenges. First, most of the documents are over 80 years old. Some have pages missing, others have holes in them. All of them were written with a 19th century hand–or earlier!
See for yourself how difficult transcription and translations can be at times.
